Our Story

Medcy Inc. was founded in 2017, Houston TX.                     

Medcy Inc. came to be as a result of one of its founding members losing her father in a year long battle to an aggressive Prostate Cancer in 2015. The family was left with the emotional task of moving forward without their loved one as well as having to remove from the home the difficult reminders of his fight with the disease; hospital bed, walkers, crutches, and daily living aids.  There were so many unused and reusable medical supplies, and they knew that their father would not want it to just be thrown away.  While there were many organizations ready to provide the reusable supplies to other countries, Lynn knew something was needed here, locally, in her own community.  Medcy Inc. was founded to fill that void of assistance for people here in the U.S living right next door to each of us. 

A portion of the sales from your donated items will go to Prostate Cancer research and Prostate Cancer awareness.      

Medcy.org mission goals are as follows:

•  To provide Durable Medical Equipment at an affordable discounted cost to the general public.

•  To raise money through thrift store sales and implement programs that will further increase access to durable medical equipment.
  

•  To keep reusable medical supplies and equipment out of the landfills, through reuse, thereby protecting the environment.
  
  
• To increase public awareness of Prostate Cancer risks and
  

  symptoms,the 2nd leading cause of death among men.

• To provide easy access to Prostate health screenings.
  
  
• To advocate for further research on Prostate health issues
  

  and improve PSA testing.

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Prostate Cancer doesn't have to be a killer.

1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in his lifetime.  1 in 6 African American men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, the 2nd leading cause of death among men.  African American men and smokers are more likely to be diagnosed with agressive deadly forms of Prostate Cancer than any other group. 1 in 5 men whose father or brothers were diagnosed will also be diagnosed. This year 164,000 men will be diagnosed with Prostate cancer and over 29,000 will die from it.  Men need to have their Prostate checked regularly, especially if there is any personal or family history of prostate problems.  Generally testing is recommended for men with no symtoms between the ages of 55 and 69. Men that are at higher risk  (ie. African American men, men with a father , brother or son with Prostate Cancer and smokers should consider testing as early as age 40-45. 

There are 3 tests for Prostate Cancer:

 1.   Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) -a blood test to measure this protein found in the prostate.

 2.   Digital Rectal exam (DRE)- a physical test to feel the prostate for problems. 

 3.   Biopsy - If DRE and PSA show a concern, a tissue sample will be taken from the prostate and reviewed for diagnosis.
